  1. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE SIGN SAFETY! Observe & Obey It Might Keep You Alive!

  2. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE Signs you may observe on a DoD Facility How should we respond?

  3. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE Signs you may observe on a DoD Facility How should we respond? China Lake has a live weapons test range! If you see this sign, obey it and do not enter the range. Bombing ranges will also fly a red flag when they are active. Do not enter without prior permission from the Range Control Authority, and only when it is safe to do so. Live weapon testing may be anything from ground IED testing/explosives; Combat non-eye-safe LASERS; High Power Microwave (HPM); Air-to-ground delivery of live weapons from aircraft; guns; rockets; missiles; etc. Not paying attention to this sign could cost you your life!

  4. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE Signs you may observe on a DoD Facility How should we respond? This sign can be found on DoD facilities and in public places. In either case, you need to take heed to this warning and not enter areas where signs like this warn of danger. While this may seem like common sense (and it is); there are folks who will ignore these signs in order to take short cuts. Please do not do so. You never know what lies ahead!

  5. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE Signs you may observe on a DoD Facility How should we respond? Here is another sign you may come across on DoD facilities. When you see this sign pay extra attention. Many ranges use high-power non-eye-safe LASERS, which are not visible. Viewing these LASERS will cause significant damage to your eyes (permanent!). Never use aided viewing devices near these signs as it can increase your risk of eye damage. Some LASERS are capable of burning your skin and causing other damage. If you are not sure, contact the local authority, but never enter an area where these signs are posted without proper eye protection and permission!

  6. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE Signs you may observe on a DoD Facility How should we respond? Every fire extinguisher will have some kind of a sign indicating it’s presence. Familiarize yourself with the location of the fire extinguishers in your facility and what type of extinguisher it is. Not all fire extinguishers can put out all fires. Note the symbols and what fires they are effective on. Also, request training at your facility if offered. Never attempt to put out large fires with a fire extinguisher and always have a clear exit strategy and egress plan in the event of a fire.

  7. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE Signs you may observe on a DoD Facility How should we respond? Many DoD facilities use harmful corrosives. If you see a sign like this, be very cautious in that environment. Do not handle corrosives without proper training and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Most of us are not trained in Hazardous Material Handling, so do not attempt to handle corrosives unless you are properly trained and have adequate PPE. In most of our positions, there is no need to handle such material, (apart from development of film), so if you are requested to, refer the requester to your supervisor. Ensure a well ventilated environment, use masks, gloves, etc. Somecorrosives are found in common household cleaners, so always read the labels and pay attention to the warnings!

  8. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE Signs you may observe on a DoD Facility How should we respond? Pay attention to such signs. Never enter the flight line without proper training, permission, and protection. Not paying attention to signs such as this one, could cause permanent hearing loss and/or loss of vision. Again, this is common sense and so please use it!

  9. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE Signs you may observe on a DoD Facility How should we respond? Here is another sign you might come across. If you do, pay attention. The area could be extremely harmful and cause severe health problems, which might not show up right away. Everyone has heard of the troops who have experienced health issues that were part of the early nuclear energy testing. There are also other means of radiation exposure that you should be aware of, such as X-rays and materials. Always pay attention and avoid areas that display this warning sign.

  10. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE Signs you may observe on a DoD Facility How should we respond? Here is another sign you might come across. The skull and cross-bones are an indication of the poisonous nature of the chemicals, which could lead to death. If you come across a sign like this, avoid the area. If you use items in your home with this label, be sure to place it in a safe place above, and out of reach of children.

  11. MONTHLY SAFETY TALKS — JUNE We could go on endlessly displaying and describing warning and cautionary signs. These were just a sampling. The main take-away is that signs warn, direct, and provide information. In the case of any warning signs or cautionary signs, it is essentially important that you pay close attention to the content of the sign and observe the warnings. Where you are warned to stay out, stay out. Most injuries and problems can be avoided by simply applying good common sense. That along with paying attention to the annotated warnings, can, and will mitigate risk to you and those around you. Be safe!
