  3. NON FICTION (true/real) • Biography • Autobiography • Travel • Informational • History • Advertisement GENRE • FICTION (made up) • Fairy Tales • Mystery • Realistic • Science Fiction • Fantasy • Historical Genre is the type of writing

  4. others : • To persuade, advertise, to ridicule, to scare, Et.c. A purpose of a text can vary between the writer and the audience. There are four main purpose of text, there are : PURPOSE to inform, to instruct, to entertain, to persuade

Persuasive - Critical • Humorous - Confidential • Sarcastic - Etc. • = How the text is read (but in this case in written form) • The tone of a text relies heavily on the vocabulary used by the writer. Certain words will give off the tone of the text. The tone of a text is related to it’s purpose TONE

  6. OBJECTIVE 2 • To gain knowledge and understanding of English language features to be able to identify the genre, writer’s purpose and tone of a text. • The English language features to look at are: • Vocabulary: the author’s choice of words • Figures of speech • Structure of the text • The vocabulary, figures of speech used and also the structure of a text varies according to the aim of the text.

  7. VOCABULARY • A person's vocabulary is the set of words within a language that are familiar to that person. • That means it is the type of words the writer is used to use

  8. FIGURES OF SPEECH • Figures of speech are the speech features • Such as: • Fillers • Elision • Colloquialisms • Pause

  9. OBJECTIVE 3 • Ability to write clearly, accurately and effectively for a specified purpose or audience., also known as directed writing. • In other words, it means to produce pieces of writing similar to the original passage which is commented on. • Example: Writing an opening of a speech in the same style of the writer of the original speech by pretending to be the original writer.
