    3. 3 Why is the Ohio Courts Network needed? Critical decisions made by courts and our justice system partners are dependent upon current and accurate case-related information

    4. 4 Case information used for critical decisions by courts: Background inquiries Setting bail Probation Sentencing Protective orders Foster care

    5. 5 Case information used for critical decisions by justice system partners: Background checks Handgun purchases Commercial driver and pilot licenses Immigration Amber alerts Civil protection orders Child-support compliance

    6. 6 The Ohio Courts Network: What is it? A statewide information exchange system to enable courts and justice system partners to share the information necessary to make these critical decisions

    7. 7 The Ohio Courts Network Deliverables Centralized data warehouse of court case-related information Portal and screen views to access information, manage ID’s and security, and view reports Connectivity to the data of justice system partners (e.g. BMV, DRC, Law Enforcement) Secure Internet-based communication network, to access and exchange data Access to court data by justice system partners

    9. 9 The Ohio Courts Network: Benefits Improves efficiency by centralizing information Enhances law enforcement by sharing current data Assists policy making and analysis Increases public knowledge and confidence Preserves local court management of cases Preserves judicial branch control of case-related data

    10. 10 The Ohio Courts Network POC is NOT… Not a separate hard-wired, private network among courts Not a Web page or public Web site Not a case management system or replacement Not a repository of all case documents Not a data/disaster recovery site for courts Not a statewide e-filing system or other electronic workflow process.

    11. 11 The Ohio Courts Network: Cost The Court requested $10.5 million, which is included in FY 2008/2009 budget proposal FY 2008: $4 million FY 2009: $6.5 million

    12. 12 Budget Covers: Hardware, software and developing the system for statewide implementation A Proof-of-Concept phase which will connect up to 20 pilot courts Connection and rollout to all remaining courts

    13. 13 The Ohio Courts Network: Next Steps Initiate proof of concept stage (this month – May 22nd kickoff meeting) Complete proof of concept stage (9-12 months) Proof of concept assessment Statewide roll-out
