Consequences of stroke • Stroke is a major worldwide health problem: • 1st cause of acquired disability in adults • 2nd cause of dementia • 3th cause of death • Enormeousstrokeincidence: • Yearly27.000 new strokes in Belgium (74 per day) • Yearly 1.100.000 new strokes in Europe • Hugesocio-economicalimpact: • $74 billion(USA, 2010) • > €300 M (Belgium,2008)
