Module: COAChing Strong Women in the Power of Strategic Persuasion Free choice for the afternoon for short courses: Women Graduate Students in Chemical Engineering: Development for an Industrial Career (S15) Women Graduate Students in Chemical Engineering: Development for an Academic Career (S14) In this workshop participants assimilate fundamentals of responsible negotiations and conflict resolution; they learn to be curious about points of view, data, and aspirations of all parties involved.  Attendees examine the importance of developing alternatives to agreement (BATNA) that build self-confidence and enhance preparation.  They use self-examination to discover personal negotiating styles and in prepared case studies covering current challenges, practice skills to reach highly successful outcomes. Cases will be taken directly from the group and will have the opportunity to role play a case to a successful outcome.

Module: COAChing Strong Women in the Power of Strategic Persuasion Free choice for the afternoon for short courses: Women Graduate Students in Chemical Engineering: Development for an Industrial Career (S15) Women Graduate Students in Chemical Engineering: Development for an Academic Career (S14) This workshop is designed to provide powerful women with skills to succeed in accomplishing their goals in negotiations and meetings.  Participants will be introduced to performance techniques that people in the theater and in leadership training understand about how to be effective (body language and non-verbals).  They will learn how to articulate a clear purpose, land their message, be heard, enhance personal presence, depersonalize attacks, and  manage hot moments.  Participants are asked to bring examples of past challenging negotiations or meetings. These moments are examined in the workshop, through the use of role plays.  Discussion, coaching, and the replay of scenarios creates a highly interactive, personal and powerful learning of the wide range of tactics available for success.

Module: Getting a Job Included in the following short courses: Women Graduate Students in Chemical Engineering: Development for an Industrial Career (S15) Women Undergraduates in Chemical Engineering: Industrial Opportunities (S16) Course One - “How to Write a Job Winning Resume” The Top Three Mistakes Made on a Resume, Building your brand, Getting Personal- Use the SOAR approach to building your resume, Standing out with Key Search Words - how to build a resume that will make the cut. Course Two - “How to find a job and build a network” Conduct a people search not a job search, Leverage your connections, Improve your chances of success by learning how to get to the decision-maker, Use social media to build and approach contacts(LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter), How to write and use your 30 second elevator pitch, Avoid the pitfalls that can sabotage your job search. Course Three - “How to transition and manage your career” Get clarity on your wants, passions and areas of interests, How to cultivate mentoring relationships, Where to get the training, education and experience that can aid in the career transition, Successfully manage office politics, stress and time management, Bonus career resources – sites for job search, resume management, salaries, and more.

Module: Getting an academic position Included in the following short courses: Women Graduate Students in Chemical Engineering: Development for an Academic Career (S14) Looking for an academic job - the process and package: This session will describe the academic job search and the required components for a faculty package.  We will look at example components and offer strategies for developing your successful package. Roundtable discussion with faculty - This interactive discussion will allow you to ask advice from female faculty and to hear their tips for a successful academic career.

    7. Module: Getting into graduate school Included in the following short courses: Women Undergraduates in Chemical Engineering: Academic Opportunities (S16) Getting into graduate school: This session will cover the key components of graduate school applications and provide an overview of the fellowship opportunities available.  We will offer advice on choosing a graduate school and developing a strong application. Panel discussion with current graduate students: Current female graduate students will share their experiences and perspectives on graduate school.  This interactive panel will allow undergraduate students to network and ask questions about what graduate school is really like.
