If it goes down, it was an investment. • Guess what the other guessers are guessing before they have guessed it. • Up or down… 7/7? BUY SIDE / SELL SIDE… • SELL SIDE: Come up with ideas, make phone calls, pay for lunch… Analysts, Stockbrokers • BUY SIDE: Also come up with ideas (but worth paying 0.2% to hear a 10% idea), receive phone calls, never pay for lunch… Fund Managers, Proprietary Traders (Prop) at Investment Banks • If you like Maths, be an Analyst, Trader, FM • If you like to talk, you should work in Sales • Either way, an Economics degree will help... • It’s good to be able to talk Macro, but an instinctive understanding of Micro is CRUCIAL

  8. EARNINGS, EARNINGS... MORE EARNINGS • HEINEKEN T/S: Sales €4.645m (4.541e), Organic volume rises 2.2% (-1.0% est), Organic revs +3.0% . Reaffirms outlook. • PEUGEOT Q3 Sales €13.45bn vs est €13.21bn.  Says Auto Div Operating Profit to be near breakeven.  Sees €700m -ve impact from RM, planning €800m cost cuts in 2012.  Reports in Les Echoes also suggest they are planning to double production in Brazil... called -2% • MERCK 3Q Revs €2.53bn (2.50e), Net Income €227m (179.3e), Core EPS 1.91 (1.67e). Cuts 2011 rev forecast to €10bn - €10.2bn from €10bn – €10.4bn
