  1. The 10 must The 10 must- -see festivals in the UK see festivals in the UK The United Kingdom hosts dozens of “so British” festivals. These events all have in common to celebrate the rich history and folklore of Great Britain, with this je-ne-sais-quoi totally wacky and quirky so typical of our European neighbors. Believe me, you really have to see it to believe it! ndar have a historical origin. Some are relatively new, but have quickly become so popular that they are now known around the world. If you want to discover some of these exceptional events, and we strongly invite you to do so, think about doing so in advance; transport and accommodation are generally full very quickly

  2. Festival viking de Jorvik Festival viking de Jorvik The city of York has a long and proud history. There was a time when it was called Jorvik and was the capital of Danelaw, a part of England controlled by the Vikings. The festival which celebrates this period attracts tens of thousands of people from all over the world, making it one of the biggest Viking events in Europe. Medieval history buffs will love discovering battle reconstructions, commented walks and crafts of yesteryear. You will also be able to attend fun animations such as the contest of the most beautiful beard or the strongest Viking. To book a hotel in York , you can consult our search engine to choose the accommodation that best suits your needs.

  3. Jack in the Green Jack in the Green Jack in the Green is a particularly old English folk custom, of pagan origin, which celebrates the return of spring. Celebrated in several regions of south-east England, it is particularly popular in Hastings. Its highlight is the parade led by a very bizarre character, a man wearing a leaf-covered wicker frame that looks like a walking tree. It is often followed by Morris dancers and musicians playing traditional music. This hugely popular festival continues the old traditions of English May Day.

  4. there festival there festival This small village on the edge of a river just near the England-Wales border is a paradise for lovers of literature. Apart from its many second-hand book shops, it hosts the annual Hay Festival, which quickly grew from a modest village festival to one of the most important literary events of the year. This 10-day festival held at the end of May attracts famous authors and thousands of readers. It was originally purely literary, but today you can listen to music and watch films there. There isn't much traveler accommodation in Hay-on-Wye , so it's best to hurry if you're planning to book a hotel for this festival

  5. Cooper’s Hill Cheese Cooper’s Hill Cheese- -Rolling Rolling There is probably no event more quintessentially English than the Cooper's Hill Cheese- Rolling: a round double Gloucester cheese is dropped down a steep slope, and participants must catch it. In the end, it is only a race on a hill, the winner of which walks away with a cheese that has traveled well, but it is extremely funny to see the spectacular falls of the runners on the uneven ground (even if the injuries are sometimes quite serious). This quirky contest attracts spectators and competitors from around the world, with the latest winners hailing from the United States, New Zealand and Nepal.

  6. Highland Games Highland Games • The Highland Games bring together competitions in almost all the disciplines considered typically Scottish. The most famous is the tree trunk throw, the equivalent of the Olympic Games javelin but with a 79 kg log. You can also see musical competitions featuring the famous Scottish bagpipes, drumming bands and Highland dancing competitions. Unlike the Olympic Games which are held in a single city, there are multiple Highland Games at different Scottish venues in spring and summer. The biggest is the Cowal Highland Gathering in Dunoon, usually held the last week of August.

  7. Carnaval de Notting Hill Carnaval de Notting Hill This massive street party is a spectacular display of London's extraordinary diversity. The Notting Hill Carnival, created by the community of British West Indies in this area, quickly evolved to eventually bring together a multitude of minority cultures from the United Kingdom. With its flamboyant costumes, energetic music and dancing, it is one of the biggest street parades in the world. This exceptional atmosphere attracts around one million people to central London every year. So expect a crowded city. Despite the abundance of accommodation in the Notting Hill area , it can be difficult to find accommodation during the Carnival period.

  8. Robin Hood Festival Robin Hood Festival The Robin Hood Festival is a bit like the Jorvik Viking Festival, but in a different time and in a different county. There is this funny historical atmosphere, spectacular duels with period weapons, stalls offering unique products and interesting attractions. As its name suggests, this festival celebrates an iconic hero of British folklore. It takes place in an ephemeral village established in the historic forest of Sherwood and occupies an area of just over one square kilometer. Between disguises, archery lessons, jousting
