ARTICLE Maharana Pratap The Legendary Warrior King of Mewar   BY MOHIT-KUMAR-SHARMA MAY 09, 2023 11:53 Maharana Pratap was a renowned Rajput warrior king who ruled the kingdom of Mewar in Rajasthan, India. He was born on May 9, 1540, in Kumbhalgarh Fort, which was the capital of Mewar at that time. He was the eldest son of Maharana Udai Singh II and Rani Jeevant Kanwar. Maharana Pratap's early life Maharana Pratap's early life was full of challenges and struggles. In 1567, when he was just 27 years old, his father Maharana Udai Singh II died, and he was crowned as the king of Mewar. However, his coronation was challenged by his own brothers and other Rajput princes, who claimed the throne for themselves. Maharana Pratap refused to accept their claims and waged a long and difficult war against them, which lasted for more than 25 years. During this time, he faced many defeats and setbacks, but he never lost his determination and courage.

  2. Maharana Pratap's battles against the Mughals One of the most famous battles fought by Maharana Pratap was the Battle of Haldighati, which was fought on June 18, 1576. In this battle, Maharana Pratap's army faced the powerful Mughal army led by the Mughal emperor Akbar's general, Raja Man Singh. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, Maharana Pratap's army fought bravely and fiercely. However, they were ultimately defeated, and Maharana Pratap was forced to flee the battlefield. It is said that he escaped on his loyal horse Chetak, who was seriously wounded and died soon after. Despite this defeat, Maharana Pratap did not lose his spirit and continued to resist the Mughal forces. He retreated to the Aravalli hills and launched a guerrilla war against the Mughals, which lasted for many years. Maharana Pratap's personal life Maharana Pratap was not just a great warrior, but also a devoted family man. He had 11 wives and 17 children, whom he loved deeply. He was particularly fond of his son Amar Singh, who was his heir apparent. Maharana Pratap's legacy Maharana Pratap died on January 19, 1597, at the age of 57. His death was a great loss for the Rajput community, who regarded him as a symbol of their resistance against the Mughal empire. Today, Maharana Pratap is remembered as a legendary warrior king, who fought for the independence and freedom of his people. He is a source of inspiration for many people in India, particularly in Rajasthan, where he is revered as a hero. Maharana Pratap's life has been celebrated in many books, movies, and TV series, including the popular Indian TV show Maharana Pratap: Ek Veer Yodha, which was aired on Sony Entertainment Television from 2013 to 2015.
