  1. Honors Catalyst: (Answer only) • Contrast ionization energy and electronegativity. • Rank from smallest to largest ionization energy: Li, K, Rb • Explain why you ranked them in that order (b/c it increases going up the PT is not acceptable in my class) Update Table of Contents: Sell Your Element – Pg 32-33 Word of the Day: Ionization Energy HW: Finish the rest of the study guide. Unit 1 Test on Tuesday

  2. Quiz, Quiz Trade (Period 6)

  3. Quiz Question #10 Explain your reasoning to why the atom increases in size moving down the periodic table Misconceptions: • “More mass, the bigger the atom” • “The atom increases as you move down and to the left side of the PT. This isn’t a good explanation (Shielding effect missing)” • “I don’t know” • “There is more electronegativity”

  4. Steps: • Using your two elements, contrast them using a T- Chart or a graphic organizer of your choice. • Using this information create a Rough Draft of your ad using the back of the T-Chart/Graphic. Use the Sell Your Element Handout

  5. If done early, begin Study Guide Q’s to prepare for the Unit 1 Test on Tuesday. • With a partner, grade each others rough draft using the rubric provided. Provide comments/feedback on what they can do better.Tuesday: • Begin final draft on Construction Paper! Use your Sell Your Element Sheet as a guide and as a checklist! Wednesday: • Post ad using tape on the wall. • Begin Gallery Critique

  6. Using the words, “Ionization energy” and “stable” explain the picture to the left. Silently work on Catalyst: (Answer only). Update Table of Contents: Sell Your Element – Pg 32-33 Word of the Day: Stability HW: Finish Final Draft of Ad (Worth a test-grade!)

  7. Final Draft of Ad (50 minutes) • Must include 7 of the 11 Unit 1 Scientific Terms found in your Sell Your Element handout. • Must be creative, and accurate. • Sell one element over the other. • Do NOT waste construction paper. Unused construction paper must be returned. • Do NOT leave a mess, cap markers and glue sticks, place everything back in it’s box! • Excessive chattering and off-task behavior will result in a school detention.

  8. Unit 1 Test • Please sign honor code • You are to only use the periodic table given to you. • If you are done, turn it in, and silently work on your Final Draft. • NOBODY is allowed to speak until everyone turned in their test. • Reminder: Bring Final Draft on Wednesday. Do NOT wrinkle your Ad in your backpack!

  9. Wednesday’s Catalyst: (Answer only) • Contrast hypothesis and theory. Use your foldable from Unit 0. • Can a theory be proven wrong? Why? Update Table of Contents: Word of the Day: None HW: Organize Unit 0 and Unit 1 Handouts. I will collect these on Thursday and Friday. I will call home if your packets are messy, disorganized, or unprofessional.

  10. Gallery Walk Critique Norms • Place your ad on a wall of the classroom using blue tape! • Do NOT put ad on top of butcher paper or anything other than the wall. • Place “Gallery Walk Critique” Sheet underneath your ad using a small piece of clear tape found on the student supply desk. • You will critique at least 4 ads.
