  1. This World Is Not My Home

  2. Our citizenship is elsewhere. Genesis 47:9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.” Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

  3. Our citizenship is elsewhere. 1 Peter 1:17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: 1 Peter 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

  4. Our citizenship is elsewhere. • Sojourn -  A temporary stay; a brief period of residence. • Pilgrimage – 1. A journey to a sacred place or shrine. 2. A long journey or search, especially one of exalted purpose or moral significance. • Stranger - 3. an outsider. 5. a person who is not a member of the family, group, community, or the like, as a visitor or guest.

  5. Our citizenship is elsewhere. Philippians 3:20-21 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

  6. We are in enemy territory. Ephesians 6:11-12 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Cf. 1 Peter 5:8

  7. We must never accommodate the world. • To make suitable • Fill our lives with the pursuit of material wealth and luxuries. 1 Tim. 6:6-8 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, andit is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

  8. We must never accommodate the world. • To become adjusted or adapted. • We can end up adjusting our lives so that we fit in • Speech • Dress • Priorities

  9. We must never accommodate the world. Deuteronomy 26:18 And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. 1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

  10. We must never accommodate the world. • To bring into harmony; adjust; reconcile • Compromise the truth in order to fit in. • Organization of the church • Work of the church • Worship of the church • Marriage, divorce and remarriage

  11. We must never accommodate the world. Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. James 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

  12. We mustn’t become acclimated to the world. Acts 17:16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols. 2 Peter 2:7-8 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)—

  13. How do we avoid it? Be careful about our attitude and how we occupy our minds and time. • Colossians 3:1-2 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. • Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. • Ephesians 5:16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil

  14. How do we avoid it? • Be careful about our treasures • Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. • Be careful about our friendships • 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

  15. This world is not all there is to life. John 14:1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 2 Corinthians 5:1-2 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven,

  16. This world is not all there is to life. Hebrews 13:14 For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. Philippians 1:21-23 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.

  17. The unsaved also have a home waiting for them. Matthew 25:41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
