  2. Bienniel Survey • The Division of Forestry has been tasked with monitoring (not enforcing) BMP compliance • This is accomplished through a statewide survey every other year • Results are published in a public report available through your BMP forester

  3. Bienniel Survey -process • Fly over each county identifying recent silviculture activity and logging it using GPS • Using property appraiser web sites, determine landowner. • Contact landowner to confirm work has been done recently, it is for silvicultural purposes, and request permission to do a survey on their property • Perform an audit on the site and inform the landowner of the results • Compile data

  5. What else does DOF do with BMP’s? Delegated by the Department of Environmental Protection’s State Water Quality Program to be responsible for: • Development of BMP’s • Training in the use of BMP’s • Educating the public on the silvicultural use of BMP’s to protect water quality

  6. Training • Workshops • Landowner • Industry • Public agencies • Courtesy Audits • Tailgate training

  7. Newspaper and magazine articles Demonstration properties Presentations to schools and FFA classes Speaking engagements with conservation groups Displays at fairs and festivals Landowner workshops Distributing compliance reports to county commissions and water management districts. Educating
