  1. THEWHISKYPEDIA DOES WHISKEY EVER GO BAD?

  2. If your whiskey collection is going bad, don’t take it personally. It’s science. When the whiskey is exposed to oxygen, the compounds which constitute the whiskey begins to change, slowly and steadily, warping the original flavour. Here is everything you need to know about your whiskey going bad: Once it’s opened, the clock is ticking - A whiskey that’s sealed will never be subjected to a flavour drift. The moment you crack open the seal of the whiskey and pour open a few drinks is when the countdown begins to start. More headspace means more air which means quicker oxidation. Whiskey brands in India are more prone to oxidation due to the presence of immense heat. Drink it within three to six months - Whiskey has a longer shelf life than that of beers and wine, but it is not as long as you think. Once you open the bottle, you should drink it within three to six months in order to avoid a flavour drift. If a particular bottle is left open for some amount of time, it adopts an earthy, graphite and off-putting flavour which isn’t really good to taste. Whiskey that is kept open for long is definitely not going to taste well in the future. You should ensure that you have it within time. Put the whiskey in a smaller bottle - You could just abandon the original bottle and pour the whiskey in a smaller bottle with less headspace and less oxygen. This will help you store your whiskey for longer.
