  1. HonorsPrecalculus… LEQ: How do you find the slope of a line & use it to write an equation of the line? Bellringer In 1990, Penn State University had an enrollment of 75,365 students. By 2009, the enrollment had increased to 87,163. What was the average annual change in enrollment from 1990 to 2009? Use the average annual change in enrollment to estimate enrollments in 1995, 2000, and 2005. Write the equation of the line that represents the given data. What is the slope? Interpret the slope in the context of the problem.

  2. HonorsPrecalculus… LEQ: How do you find the slope of a line & use it to write an equation of the line? AP #1: How do we calculate the slope of a line from data points, a graph, & an equation? practice Find the slope of the line passing through each pair of points. a) (-5,-6) and (2,8) b) (4,5) and (8,4) c) (0,-3) and (4,-3)

[rap practice • Draw a line that has a positive slope • Draw a line that has a negative slope • Draw a line that with zero slope. • Draw a line with undefined slope.

  4. HonorsPrecalculus… LEQ: How do you find the slope of a line & use it to write an equation of the line? AP #1: How do we calculate the slope of a line from data points, a graph, & an equation? practice Identify the slope of each line: 2) 1) 3)

  5. HonorsPrecalculus… LEQ: How do you find the slope of a line & use it to write an equation of the line? AP #2: How do we write linear equations given points on lines & their slopes? practice directions: Write the equation of each line in slope intercept form. 1) Passes through the point (3,-7) & has a slope of 2 2) Passes through the points (4,-2) & (2,9) 4) Passes through the points (6,8) & (-7,8) 3) passes through the point (5,-3) & is vertical

  6. HonorsPrecalculus… LEQ: How do you find the slope of a line & use it to write an equation of the line? AP #3: How do we sketch lines using slope, y-intercept, & data points? practice Directions: Given each linear equation below, a) identify the slope & y-intercept b) Describe the graph of the line

  7. HonorsPrecalculus… LEQ: How do you find the slope of a line & use it to write an equation of the line? AP #3: How is slope used to identify parallel & perpendicular lines? Directions: Graph each set of lines. Describe the relationship that occurs between the lines. practice A) B)

  8. HonorsPrecalculus… LEQ: How do you find the slope of a line & use it to write an equation of the line? AP #3: How is slope used to identify parallel & perpendicular lines? Directions: Graph each set of lines. Describe the relationship that occurs between the lines. practice A) B)

  9. HonorsPrecalculus… LEQ: How do you find the slope of a line & use it to write an equation of the line? Extended thinking: Applying our learning! • The net sales for a car manufacturer were $14.61 billion in 2009 and $15.78 billion in 2010. • Write a linear equation giving the net sales y in terms of x, where x is the number of years since 2000. • Use your equation to predict the net sales in 2011.
