  4. Mechanics SCRIMMAGE PLAYS Basics Fwd progress from GL to 2yd line Goal line coverage @ 5yd line Backward passes – Thrown toward you; no punch Offsides is a LIVE BALL foul If A is threatened, shut it down. 7 Man Flank Mechanics

  5. Offside vs. False Start“Threatened” B can threaten up to 3 offensive players B in neutral zone Offensive player reacts If B makes contact or moves unabated past an A lineman’s shoulder pads, kill play. Need to sprint in and talk to U and opp flank 7 Man Flank Mechanics

SCRIMMAGE PLAYS Runs – snap, tackle, key Passing Know your keys (never widest guy) Stay on LOS until ball is released Must help R on grounding: go to him at end of play Did the ball reach the LOS? Was there an eligible receiver in the area with an oppty to catch the ball? 7 Man Flank Mechanics

Critical Skills for Flanks Crossfield Mechanics Mirror your partner U will look for progress from either side Crucial on sidezone plays (peek across) Penalty Enforcement LJ @ enforcement spot with U HL @ enforcement spot: mirror walk off with U If incorrect, LJ to get U’s attention HL is safety valve for getting it right 7 Man Flank Mechanics

Critical Skills for Flanks “Reverse Fade” mechanics Turnovers & Kicks: Deeps take progress up to the 2yd line; Flanks have A’s goal line HL– signal “5 will get you 1” to R when past the tape LJ– “Own” 1st down decisions 99.9% of the time Timeouts– Manage your team (inside #’s on sideline) 7 Man Flank Mechanics

  12. Things to Know • 4th DOWN FUMBLE RULE • On 4th down or try • Only A player that fumbles can recover & advance • If another A player recovers, ball is dead at that point and returned to spot of fumble (if in advance) • B can recover & advance (except on a try) 7 Man Flank Mechanics

  13. Things to Know • TIMING • Clock does not stop when A makes line-to-gain • OOB – wind at ready-for-play (except Q2/Q4 restrictions) • 2 minute warning at end of Q2 & Q4 7 Man Flank Mechanics
