Introduction • Serra de Tramuntana is the main group of mountains in Majorca. • It is situated in the North-West of the island, from Andratx to Pollença. • Its highest mountain is Puig Major, of 1445 metres high. • This power point deals with the flora that you can find in Serra de Tramuntana and its walking routes.

  3. 2. Flora • Serra de Tramuntana is the most valuable natural area in the Balearic islands. • Its flora can be divided into two groups: • 5 “natural communities” which are unique in the Serra de Tramuntana. • 25 regional species which only exist in this part of the island.

  6. 3. Walking routes • GR-221 route, also called “Ruta de la pedra en sec”, goes from Andratx to Pollença (150 km) and it is one of the most famous walking routes in the island. • This route is formed by old paths which have been recently improved. • GR-221 route is consists of different areas.

Different areas • Zone 1: from Port d’Andratx to Coll de sa Gramola. • Zone 2: from Coll de sa Gramola to Estellencs. • Zone 3: from Estellencs to Esporles. • Zone 4: from Esporles to Valldemossa. • Zone 5: from Valldemossa to Deià. • Zone 6: from Deià to Sóller. • Zone 7: from Sóller to Font d’es Noguer. • Zone 8: from Font d’es Noguer to Tossals Verds. • Zone 9: from Tossals Verds to Lluc. • Zone 10: from Lluc to Pollença.

  10. 4. Conclusion • Interesting facts: • In Serra de Tramuntana, there are many different types of plants which only exist in this area. • In Serra de Tramuntana, there is a walking route which goes from Andratx to Pollença. • All these aspects make Serra de Tramuntana a unique place to live.
