  5. What Birmingham does • Test bed with 50 homes (Living Lab) • 250 in EU – B’ham, Bristol, Manchester, Plovdiv, Russe • Cycle 1 = 60 total UK

  9. Progress to Date – Living Labs • Family Hsg Association on Board • 20plus households lined up • 60 smart metres purchased and hubs configured • System 1st version live – 5 users testing • 1st survey done, 640 B’ham responses • User agreement drafted

  10. Progress to Date - technical • Server purchased and set up • First simulation model created • Source code being published to Open Source community • IBM free licence received for Informix IDS

  11. Challenges and plans • EC project review 29/01/2009 • Advancing state of the art – R&D • Moving from MySQL to time series DB • Scaleability to millions of households • Including gas (planned) and more data • Involving Open Source Community
