  1. Pleasantville High School Special Education Programs and Support Services

Non-Categorical Resource Room • Building level support for executive functions such as, organizational skills, study skills, self-monitoring, reading comprehension, writing organization etc. • Offered in grades 9 through 12. Frequency ranging from one period a week to one period per day. • Referral is made through guidance counselor and the Child Study Team.

  4. Integrated Co-Teaching • Offered in English, Science, Social Studies and Spanish. • Taught by a General Education teacher and a Special Education teacher also certified in the content area. • Class is heterogeneous with no more than 1/3 being students identified as in need of additional support. The remainder are randomly placed. • The curriculum is identical to that in other general education classes. • Special education teacher is responsible for differentiating curriculum, overseeing classroom/testing accommodations, and communication with parents.

  5. Resource Room • Small group instruction conducted by a certified special education teacher that addresses skill deficits as delineated in IEP goals. • Typically offered one period a day. • Quarterly progress reports reflecting progress toward IEP goals.

  6. High School Modified Program • Self-contained special education classes offered in Grades 9-12 in English, Math, Social Studies and Science. • Curriculum follows general education curriculum with modifications to scope and pacing. • Delivery of instruction is modified with regard to rate and breadth. • Preparation for Regents and/or RCT.

  7. Therapeutic Support Program (TSP) • Offers a high level of emotional support to students grades 9 through 12. • Emotional and academic support is offered through consultation in mainstream and/or modified classes as appropriate and participation in a Study Skills class. • In grades 9-12 English and Social Studies are offered in self-contained classes.

  8. Individual Support Program (ISP) Offers individualized support in grade 9 through age 21 through Direct Instruction (DI) in areas of academics, social emotional, behavior management and activities of daily living. Direct Instruction is a model that utilizes clearly defined and prescribed teaching activities to promote incremental learning. ISP includes transitional planning activities such as community based instruction, vocational planning and job coaching, as appropriate.
