  13. What is Evaluation? However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results. (Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister during World War II)

  14. What is Evaluation? • A systematic method of determining the ability of a program to meet its vision and its goals • It should be structured to mirror the goals and objectives of the program

  15. Key Terms Goals Objectives Indicators Outcomes

  16. Goals describe what the project will accomplish • Objectives describe how the intended goals will be achieved • Indicators are the specific units of analysis, i.e. what is being measured to assess the outcome • Outcome is defined as any changes in behavior, knowledge, attitudes, skills, values or status expected to occur as a consequence of the intervention or services

  17. Data and Evaluation We use data to answer our evaluation questions. Data can be either quantitative (numbers) or qualitative (words and pictures). Sources of quantitative data: surveys, sign-in sheets and records. Sources of qualitative data: focus groups, pictures and interviews.

  18. Using Quantitative Data: Which Steeler Receiver Had the Best Season?

  19. The Zoo Using Qualitative Data: Where would your family have more fun? An Amusement Park
