  2. First Crusade • Took place from 1096 to 1099. • Otherwise known as the People’s Crusade • Led by Count Raymond IV of Toulouse and declared by many wandering preachers, notably Peter the Hermit.

  3. Second Crusade • Took place 1144 to 1155 • Led by Holy Roman Emperor Conrad III and King Louis VII of France • Crusaders prepared to attack Damascus.

  4. Third Crusade • Took place 1187 to 1192 • Led by Richard the Lionheart of England, Philip II of France, and Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I. • Richard I made a truce with Saladin

  5. Fourth Crusade • 1202 -1204 • Led by Fulk of Neuil • French/Flemish advanced on Constantinople

  6. The Children’s Crusade • Took place in 1212 • Led by a peasant, Stephen of Cloyes from France

  7. Fifth Crusade • Took place 1217 to 1221 • Led by King Andrew II of Hungary, Duke Leopold VI of Austria, John of Brienne

  8. Sixth Crusade • Took place 1228 to 1229 • Led by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II

  9. Seventh crusade • Took place 1248 to 1254 • Led by Louis IX of France

  10. Eighth Crusade • Took place in 1270 • Led by Louis IX

  11. Ninth Crusade • Took place 1271 to 1272 • Led by Prince Edward(later Edward I of England)
