What narrative is given to us , and from this what do we expect the rest of the film's narrative will be from the information that we have been given? • Silence – lack of diegetic and non diegetic sound • Fear – wide eyes, close ups of peoples faces • Relationships – family collective, sticks together • Rebellion – kid takes battery after being told he couldn’t

  4. Who is the target audience for this film, how do we know this from the opening scene? • Target audience – 25-50 years of age • Male and female – as family is represented • White as all the actors are Caucasian • Lower/ middle class – lack of expensive products

  5. How is the genre of the film set up in the opening scene? What key conventions have been used? • Silence – no speaking • Fear of sound • Slow paced, building up to feature event • Regular people and a protagonist • Family and relationships

What cameras work has been used and why?What sound is used and how does it effect the narrative and characters?What editing techniques have been used and why? • Low angles are used to show lack of power • Close up on faces as everything is tense • No sound is used, to create suspense • Continuity editing

  7. Do you think this is a successful opening scene? • I think that was very effective because it gives you a very clear idea of what the storyline will be and how their world works
