It is to help prepare you to conduct a research study as if you were writing a thesis. By the end of this class, you should have a proposal written that could lead to a thesis. As such, I find it helpful to make sure everybody understands that at the beginning of the class. When we talk about research in this class, we are not talking about a research paper that you have written in previous classes. We are talking about developing a plan to conduct a research study. The research papers that you have written in previous classes are similar to the literature review section of the research proposal. The literature review will be based on the annotated bibliography that you will do. You will submit the annotated bibliography for one of the assignments in this class. You do NOT cut and paste your annotated bibliography in your final research proposal, but you will use those articles to create a literature review. A literature review is a discussion of the topic and using those articles to support your points, not a list of articles that you have summarized. You will write an introduction, a literature review, a methods section, and then a results/conclusion section (based on what you think you will find). I have attached a sample for you to read.<br> <br>Another document that I have attached another document is a sample of the format of a research proposal and describes each section and what it should include.<br> <br>Now, for this assignment, use the blank outline I have attached and write a 1-2 sentence summary in each section to indicate that you understand what the section should include in your submitted proposal in week 5. You do not have to have a topic, just summarize the information that will need to be icluded.<br>You do NOT have to have a topic yet; we will be exploring that as we start the class. In your week 2 assignment, you will discuss your topic and I will let you know if your topic is approved when I grade those. A research proposal on serial killers will not be approved.
