  1. Investigating respiration Objectives • Recall how temperature affects the rate of enzyme controlled reactions. • Analyse results from an investigation • Explain how a manometer works

  2. Factors that affect respiration Come up with a list of factors that could affect the rate of respiration. For each one try to give an explanation. • Availability of substrate. • Glucose • Oxygen • NAD • ATP (from glycolysis) • FAD 2. Temperature-Respiration is enzyme controlled. 3. pH-Respiration is enzyme controlled. 4. Enzyme inhibitors. 5. Problems with mitochondria.

  3. Manometer -Used to measure the rate of respiration. -Measures the volume of oxygen used up by displacing a liquid. Volume of oxygen can then be calculated by using the diameter of the capillary tube. -Soda lime is used to absorb carbon dioxide produced. This ensures that the liquid will only move due to the depletion of oxygen.
