  2. People Involved (Union) • General Ulysses S. Grant • General Don Carlos Buell • 62,000 troops.

  3. People Involved (Confederacy) • General Albert Sidney Johnston • Replaced by General P.G.T Beaugard • 45,000 troops • General Johnston was struck in the back of the leg by a bullet hitting an artery and bled to death so he was replaced.

  4. Where did the battle occur? • Tennessee River, North of Mississippi border

  5. Timeframe • April 6-April 7 1862

  6. Outcome • About 24,000 casualties • Union had 13,000 killed. • The Confederates 11,000 killed (including Johnston.

  7. Impact (Union) • Destroyed hopes that the Confederacy would soon be defeated

  8. Impact(Confederacy) • Same way as the union,

  9. What did the Union gain? • Land, they were closer to the Mississippi River, and dividing the Confederacy.

  10. Where did the Confederacy go? • They were forced back to Shiloh Church • Eventually went back to Cornith
