  1. Marriage and Children “He lifted his eyes and saw the women and the children, and said, ‘Who are these with you?’ So he said, ‘The children whom God has graciously given your servant.’” (Gen. 33:5)

  2. A Happy Family • Begins with relationship between husband and wife. • Security and Trust. “I plight thee my troth.” • Temptations are ever present, regardless of era. David and Bathsheba to present. • Fidelity goes far beyond adultery. • Do we “run down” our partner to children or friends? • Spend our family into bankruptcy?

  3. Our Vows • Cleave • For better or worse. • For richer or poorer. • In sickness or health. • In togetherness or separation (war, business trips) • To love and cherish. • Till death do us part.

  4. When (If) Children Come • A great blessing and a great responsibility. • Their innocence. • Their dependence. • Their rebellion. • Their immaturity. • It’s sometimes difficult to convey love when we’re hurt or angry.

  5. Children Deserve: • Love – Romans 1:31; Titus 2:4. Impartial and unconditional. • Discipline – Prov. 13:24; 22:15; 23:13-14. • Freedom with restraint: cannot (realm of forbidden), can (realm of decisions). • To be taught respect. They will never receive it if they don’t show it. Parents, too.

  6. Children Deserve: • Time – for play, to listen to our stories (family, Bible) and to tell theirs. • To be taught about God, Joshua 4:21-24 • An example of Christian behavior, Acts 1:1. Watch your language and actions. • Christ is the example, follow Him.
