  2. Introduction • Main academic cties: Tallinn and Tartu Funny fact • In 17 century, Tallinn had declined the offer of the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf to open an university which was picked-up by the magistrates of Tartu

  3. Higher education • Binary HE system • Academic branch: bachelor-, master- and doctoral-level studies offered by universities only • Professional HE: part of the university structure or in a professional or vocational school

  15. Academic year • Begins in September and ends in June. • The deadline for submitting applications differs from institution to institution. Grading system: from 5 – to 0 5-1 positive 0- fail (less than 50% of expected knowledge and skills)

  17. Tuition fees • Study costs may differ by institution • EU students could compete for State supported places • No State support for programs in foreign languages • Fees vary from 1300 to 5100 Euro • Private HEI more expensive • Fees could differ for EU and non - EU
