  1. Physics Summer Project • This work is to be completed and printed for the first lesson back at college in September • Remind yourself of the Success Criteria and the safety devices in the modern car • Complete all tasks set • Work must be your own. Do NOT copy/paste from wikipedia

  2. Success Criteria All students should be able to: Describe how safety focussed design is used within a car Most students should be able to: Fully explain how each of the above works Some students should also be able to: Link the concepts of safety to a mathematical principle

  3. Make summary notes on the NCAP Car safety standards • Notes should include the criteria for each star rating and examples of cars in each category Task ONE

  4. Explain optimal materials for torsion bars, seatbelts, airbags etc and why they were chosen. Why are these materials sometimes not used in some cars? Task TWO

  5. Explain how the air bag responds to an impact with associated diagrams and if possible, link to a mathematical relationship. Task THREE

  6. Design a car with appropriate size and function for a family of four but with safety focussed on ALL passengers, not just in the front. Include references to ‘Force’, ‘deceleration’, ‘impulse’ and ‘surface area’. Task FOUR
