  1. The Kennedy Assassination Vocab: Lee Harvey Oswald Jack Ruby Warren Commission Guiding Questions: How was Kennedy assassinated? What conspiracy theories are there related to his death?

  2. The Kennedy Assassination • On November 22nd, 1963 JFK and his wife Jacqueline rode through Dallas, TX in an open car, as part of the motorcade taking him through the city. • Lee Harvey Oswald, with connections to both the Soviet Union and Cuba, shot JFK from the sixth floor of a schoolbook depository. • Within hours, JFK’s Vice President, Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the new President aboard Air Force One. • Police arrested Oswald within hours of the shooting.

  3. Kennedy Assassination cont • While police were transferring Oswald from the Police Department to the County jail, a man name Jack Ruby (a nightclub owner with ties to organized crime) shot and killed Oswald.

  4. Conspiracy Theories • There are many conspiracy theories concerning the assassination of JFK • Some believe that there were ties between Oswald and Ruby, and Ruby shot Oswald to keep him quiet • Some believe that Oswald was hired by the Soviets and Cuba to assassinate the President. • Others believe that there was no way that Oswald could have had the accuracy to shoot JFK and that the gun shot actually came from an area known as the “grassy knoll “ • The Warren Commission was set up to investigate these claims and came to the conclusion that Oswald acted as a “lone gunman” and was not acting on orders from anyone, including the Soviets. • Later in 1979 the House Select Committee on Assassinations agreed with the Warren Commission but said there were at least four shots and that there was a “high probability” of two gunmen
