  4. The HSOP’s Survey Asked key staff to take the pre-initiative survey Reminded staff to take the pre-initiative survey Pleadedw/ staff to take the pre-initiative survey

  5. The PLAN • Show the Science of Safety video • To the Nurse management group: They really connected with Dr Pronovost • To the direct patient care staff: they thought, “Is this one more thing we are trying?” • To the physicians: they really connected with Dr. Pronovost

  6. Board Revised the 20 minute Dr. Pronovost talk to 8 minutes They loved it (Pharmacist, Dentist, two nurses) February 2010

  7. Some push back Surgeon insists that putting in Femoral line is “not a problem” they way he does it CRNA does not like checklists! Have not had a central line infection in the past so “what was the big deal?”

  8. Journey continues… Small successes: CELEBRATE! Finding the checklist on every central line kit on cart in ER! Having a surgeon come to us and converse about chlorhexadine, now that a “30 year” surgeon has retired.

  9. Where do we go from here? • Nursing care of the line/maintenance • Hub cleaning process • “Dressing” product change
