  1. To Kill A Mockingbird NGO Research Assignment

  2. Issue: Equality Before the Law “I’m no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of our courts and in the justice system- that is no ideal to me.” (227)

  3. NGO: Fair Trials International In “To Kill a Mockingbird” Tom Robinson finds himself unequal in a court of law simply because he is black. The evidence clearly points to his innocence but still he is convicted by a biased jury. Fair Trials International campaign against human rights abuses in the criminal justice context. Such an organization would have helped Robinson by supporting his human rights in the courtroom even though he was a black man

  4. Issue: Sexism “I could not possibly hope to be a lady if I wore breeches: when I said I could do nothing in a dress, she said I wasn’t supposed to do things that required pants. Aunt Alexandra’s vision of my deportment involved playing with small stoves, tea sets and wearing the Add-A-Pearl necklace she gave me.” (90)

  5. NGO: Girls For A Change Scout, the narrative voice of “To kill a Mockingbird”, faces sexism throughout the book. She is judged by the way she dresses and acts, both which are deemed “unlady like” and unfitting for a little girl. An organization like Girls For A Change would help to empower scout and give her the chance to speak out and encourage her to reach her full potential.

  6. Issue: Racism “Cry about the simple hell people give other people- without even thinking. Cry about the hell white people give coloured folks, without even stopping to think that they’re people too.” (222)

  7. NGO: Stop Racism and Hate Collective Throughout the book, racism is a prevalent issues in the community. Black people are treated as second rate citizens and face prejudice. This can be clearly seen in the case of Tom Robinson. The Stop Racism and Hate Collective would help the community by educating them about equality rights. Also it is an online way to fight racism by reporting hate crimes and flagging racist sites, comments and users on the media.

  8. Issue: Child Abuse “when he’s riled, has he ever beaten you?” (202) “ why don’t you tell the truth, child? Didn’t Bob Ewell beat you up?” (207)

  9. NGO: Prevent Child Abuse America All though it is never stated in the book its clearly left to the reader to infer that Bob Ewell abuses his children both through neglect and physical violence. Prevent Child Abuse America’s mission is to stop this kind of tragedy happening to children. They would step in to protect the Ewell Children and make sure that Bob Ewell received the rightful punishment for his actions.
