  8. American Ignorance "Dr. Pease, a conservative and instructor at Taft College has looked at a recent study of 1000 adults made by Newsweek and worries about the political and historical ignorance of many Americans.” 29% of Americans who couldn’t name the current Vice President Nearly 25% were unaware of Martin Luther King’s accomplishments.

  9. Arizona State Immigration Law (SB1070) Purpose: The provisions of this act are intended to work together to discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of aliens and economic activity by persons unlawfully present in the United States.

  10. There is more than meets the eye 1 2 • A survey I conducted within Carl Wunsche, Sr. High School among 50 people. • “Where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the united states, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the person.” (SB1070) • Question: “If you found yourself in the position of a law enforcement official which one of these men would you more likely to question their legal status if they've given you reasonable suspicion to believe otherwise? 4 3

  11. Benefits The Joaquin Luna Jr. Act: • Benefitthe U.S. Armed Forces. • Stimulate the American economy. • Includes important restrictions to prevent abuse.

  12. Chicago Passes the DREAM Act The Illinois Dream Act will establish a private fund, administered by a volunteer state commission, to make scholarships available to about 95,000 children of undocumented immigrants who graduate from Illinois high schools.

  13. How much will it cost? It will NOT cost the Illinois taxpayers a dime to invest in these kids, many of whom have demonstrated that they are talented enough to be accepted into elite colleges and universities.

  14. Why help them?

  15. Why help them?

  16. Why not help them? • Enacting the Joaquin Luna Jr. Act satisfies the needs of the registrant, and the concerns of the state immigration law of Arizona/future states that are going to implement a similar law like SB1070. • This act gives children that do not have the option of better life in their birthplace to gain one. At NO COST!
