  7. Evidence… • Is standards-based • Can include both examples of meeting or not meeting the expectation • Does not include judgment (that comes during the summative rating)

  8. How do we document evidence objectively?

  9. Documenting Evidence Tips • Avoid terms that express judgment (“messy office,” “fun activity,” “caring attitude”) • Avoid words that imply quantity (“most,” “few,” “several”) • Stick to the five senses • Remember Who, What, When, Where, How

  10. How can this evidence be improved? 5.7 Provides a variety of opportunities for parent and family involvement in school activities. Offered several programs for parents and families to attend, both during the school day and in the evening. How many? What programs? Did parents attend?

  11. Better Example 5.7 Provides a variety of opportunities for parent and family involvement in school activities The principal provided 8 programs for parents and families to attend during the school day as well as after school. Programs included sessions to enable parents to help their children with homework, tips on communicating with teachers, and specific content areas such as reading and math. Attendance records indicated that the number of students represented ranged between 56 – 72%.

  12. How can this evidence be improved? 2.3 Utilizes shared decision-making and collaboration to build relationships with all stakeholders and maintain positive school morale. The principal collaborates with all stakeholders in a variety of ways. How does he/she collaborate? What was the outcome? What stakeholders?

  13. Improve this Evidence 2.3 Utilizes shared decision-making and collaboration to build relationships with all stakeholders and maintain positive school morale. The principal collaborates with all stakeholders in a variety of ways.

  14. Improve this Evidence: One Example 2.3 Utilizes shared decision-making and collaboration to build relationships with all stakeholders and maintain positive school morale. The principal conducted a Community Priorities Workshop this year to solicit input from students, teachers, parents, and community groups on setting goals for next school year. In addition, he surveyed all students, parents and teachers to get their input on the goals set by those representative groups. After collating the data from the workshop and the surveys, he set the following goals for next year: increase computer labs, improve communication, and provide more extra-curricular activities for students.
