1. 20417 South University, Missouri City, TX 77459 (281) 499- 7214 • Slow Down and Play! • Dr. David Elkin, the author of TheHurried Child: Growing Up Too Fast, Too Soon and a professor of child study at Tufts University, has written quite extensively on the topic of high-pressure, overscheduled children. His research suggests that students' activities and relationships with their parents are a greater indicator of academic success than hurrying children through early childhood by overestimating their competence and overexposing them to academic experience. • Additionally, Elkin discusses the concept that children who are not ready early could be placed in a position in which success would be difficult. Therefore, Dr. Elkin advises parents to let children be children. This discussion inevitably leads to the importance of play. Play is an important part of childhood and must not be hurried or transformed into work. • In essence, pure play is needed to reduce stress and experience joy. Adults should not turn play into work and should avoid “teaching” children during their play period. In effect, play fosters creativity better than most toys. Creativity and self-expression are very important skills that can be nurtured and practiced during play. • After all, when children play: • They have many opportunities to apply mental representations of the world to new objects, people, and situations—the key ability for future academic learning. • They integrate all types of learning—physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and language development. • They are engaged in things they’re interested in—so they have a natural motivation to learn. • In the final analysis, childhood is a significant part of life, and we would all do well to respect and value the joy in just being a child…and letting them PLAY! 2. Infant Room A Mrs. Cathy, Mrs. Brenda, Miss Monica & Miss Tiffany We would like to welcome Shan to our room. We are so happy to have him join us. We would also like to congratulate Shane for moving to Infant Room B. During the month of March, we will be focusing on your babies’ movements and muscle growth. We will be working with each child at his/her level to help develop both the large and small muscles. In the “Your Links to Learning Monthly Snapshot”, there are various activities that you can do with your child to help develop their muscle strength. Infant Room B Mrs. Mary, Mrs. Tanana & Miss Atria We would like to welcome Shane to our classroom. For the month of March we will decorate & celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. We will be learning the number 6, the Letter I and the shape- Triangle. Parents your “ Links to Learning Monthly Snapshot” has activities that you can do with your child at home. Toddlers Miss Elena, Miss Shares We would like to Welcome Chloe to our Awesome Toddler Room. For this month we will be working on the letter: D, number: 4, color: blue and the shape: star. Beginners Mrs. Pam, Ms. Tangelo, Mrs. Krystal & Mrs. Kasha We would like to Welcome D.J., Alexi and Haley to the Beginners program. For the month of march we will be decorating for St. Patrick’s Day. We will be learning our number in Spanish and our colors for the month. We will be doing a lot of creative things with the letter N, color Green, and our monthly shape. Our theme for this month will be “Colors around the World” Reminders!

3. Intermediate Miss Kim, Mrs. Cecilia, Mrs. Courtney & Mrs. Santa While March is approaching the children will be introduced to Dr. Seuss Birthday and St. Patrick’s day. They will also become familiar with the Spring Season. Our numbers of the month are 10, 11, & 12, followed by our letters J, K, L. We look forward to many fun activities during the month of March. Pre-K 1 Mrs. Zahra & Miss Brittney Prepare yourself for a month full of a adventure and fun as we Spring into Spring! This month we will be focusing on letters W, X, Y and Z as we come to a successful end to the alphabet. Our goal is to be able to write from 1-50, and practice move addition, writing, listening and verbal skills. We will be looking at more sight words, beginning sounds and best of all learn to tell time! We will be discussing the following themes: Dental Health, Birds Feathered Friends, Good Luck of the Irish and Springing into Spring.
