It was there that he first acquired a reputation for his bold and fearless disposition.

  4. Physical Characteristics • Grown, Bowie was described as "a stout, rather raw-boned man, of six feet height, weighing 180 pounds." He had light-colored hair, keen grey eyes "rather deep set in his head," a fair complexion, and high cheek-bones.

Role during the Texas revolution • The siege of the Alamo lasted 13 days and ended on the morning of March 6, 1836 when the Mexican forces of General Antonio López de Santa Anna stormed the old mission. While the men at the Alamo manned the front lines in the struggle for independence, a Convention was taking place on the banks of the Brazos River

Finale year • (April 10, 1796 – March 6, 1836) age (36) • Known for his famous "Bowie knife" and a sometimes reckless adventurer, Jim Bowie is now immortalized as one of the true folk heroes in early Texas. • Known for his famous "On March 6, 1836, the Mexicans attacked before dawn, and all 188 defenders of the Alamo perished. Santa Anna asked to see the corpses of Bowie, Travis, and Crockett, and Bexar, mayor Francisco Ruiz identified the bodies. Bowie lay on his cot in a room on the south side. He had been shot several times in the head.
