  3. Aspects of ICT Laboratory Management • Network Administration • Maintenance and Electrical Safety • Asset Management • Facility Effectiveness • Ethical and Positive Use • Systems and Procedures

  4. Network Administration • Internet connection • Media and Virus Prevention and Clean up • Server and Workstation Security • Regular Backups • Antivirus and Software updates • Firewalls, Cyber filters

  5. Maintenance & Safety • ICT Equipment maintenance planning and implementation • Cleaning and maintenance of other electrical equipment in the Lab • Electrical safety checks

  6. Asset Management • Hardware and software inventory and control • Equipment Records

  7. Facility Effectiveness • Plan, implement and support 100% ICT utilization program • Promote use of ICT in teaching and learning process • Training of new users and continuous training for current users • Develop and review SOPs

  8. Ethical and Positive Use of ICT • Develop and implement AUP • Consider installing Web filter • Prevention and Deterrence: supervised surfing and guidance, room arrangement • Encourage personal responsibility and positive values

  9. Systems and Procedures Develop, Implement, and regular review of: • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) • Appropriate Use Policy (AUP) • Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) Review inputs will come from complaints and suggestions of the previous review period and for new services.

  10. AUPs and SOPs • AUPs : are broad policies that cover workstations, as well as access to the network and the Internet. They define what can be done and what cannot be done with the ICT facility. • SOPs: are collection of common laboratory procedures that clearly defines how to accomplish them. They prevent or reduce risks and damage to equipment and students, makes one save on resources and lastly, these systems and procedures makes the job of the center manager practicable

  11. Crafting AUPs • AUPs should give students clearly articulated standards on use of the Internet and school’s ICT resources (PCs, disk space, bandwidth). • Teachers, parents, and students should sign for compliance contracts. No signatures, no surfing. • Be clear: Instead of using a phrase like "students shall not access inappropriate or unacceptable material" without defining the words "inappropriate" or "unacceptable”, consider "A student shall not access material that is profane or obscene (pornography) or that advocates violence toward other people."

  12. Constant Minder: GLP • Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) is a brief reminder for all users of the minimum expectations and of important items in AUP and SOP posted in a prominent place of the ICT Lab. • Example GLP for ICT Users

  13. Summary • Develop and Implement systems and procedures for effective ICT Lab management • Monitor and measure the ICT Lab Effectiveness as your final indicator of Effective ICT Lab management • Regularly review your policies and procedures for effectiveness
