  1. Coaches in the Classroom At Park View High School

What is Coaches in the Classroom? • With funding from the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, and support from the Athlife Foundation, Coaches in the Classroom (CIC) is a Positive Youth Development program for student athletes. • The program strengthens team identity and provides academic support and skill building for participants.

  3. PROGRAM GOALS • Improve Grade Point Average • Increase Number of Students Taking the SAT/ACT & Improved Scores on Tests • Increase Opportunities for Higher Education • Enhance Life Skills Development • Increase Opportunities for Community Service • Increase Parent & Family Involvement

  4. What does the program mean for my student athlete? • Beginning the 3rd Quarter in 2012, team members will be participating in CITC. The program includes: • One on one academic support from the Academic Advisor for Athletics, Coach Moody • Team Study Tables • TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS FROM 4-6pm Cont.

  5. Leadership development opportunities • Assistance in the college preparation process • Guidance in the SAT/ACT process • Monitoring of the NCAA Clearinghouse • Identifying colleges and academic programs with athletes • Community service

  6. Partnership with Parents • This program is here as a resource for you as well! • NCAA Eligibility • College Process and more • We’ll ask for your participation in CITC events, please make sure to sign up for CITC email alerts for more information.

  7. Creating Additional Opportunities for your Student Athlete • As part of the program, Coach Moody will keep files on each student with information such as: • Community Service Log • Progress Reports • Study Table Attendance • Academic Records • Athletic Profile/Scouting Report Through the program, students can gain opportunities to develop their resume/college applications. (Example, next slide)

STUDY HALL • Each Tuesday and Thursday from 4-6pm • Students will: • Sign in and check in with the Academic Captain • Go to appropriate Section: • Silent Study • In-Team Tutor/Help Section • Homework Help in Cafeteria • No Homework Section • Reading • SAT Prep • Academic Counseling with Coach Moody

  10. Student Example: Makes 1,000 YARD CLUB Rewards for achieving 1,000 Yard Club are T.B.D. but promise to be exciting!
