  1. The Bible & Narcotics

  2. Definitions Prescription Drugs Medically prescribed drugs (usually opiates) which can only be taken legally if they are given under a licensed Physician’s direct orders/care Can certainly be abused Drugs can affect some individuals quite differently than others

  3. Definitions Illicit Drugs Substances that are specifically banned by law

  4. Definitions Habit Forming/Addictive Ingredients Food or drink additives that form a craving/habitual need in those who have used the product over time Nicotine, Caffeine

  5. 1 Peter 2:13-16 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.

  6. The Heart of the Matter

  7. Luke 16:13 “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

  8. Pharmakeia - φαρμακεια The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and φαρμακεια; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, and envy; drunkeness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

  9. Acts 19:19-20 A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.

  10. Changing Times

  11. Permissible vs. Beneficial

  12. Psalm 55:22 Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteousness fall

  13. 1 Peter 5:6-8 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

  14. Colossians 2:6-23
