  2. TITLE: Training TU leaders from MNEs under UNITRAV and UNI NEPAL

  3. TIME FRAME: 9 month • Starts from: 1 April, 2012 • Ends at: Dec. 30 , 2012

  4. Background & Justifications: • UNITRAV • is the trade union federation for the workers under travel, trekking, rafting and airlines sector • Membership of 5000- approx. • 20% of women membership • Affiliated to GEFONT in national Level • Major problems in Sector: • Social security not covering to the all workers • Low unionisation in Airlines sector • Major international airlines operating in Nepal are not implementing labour law

Background & Justifications: UNI NEPAL • is the liaison council of UNI affiliates in Nepal under Banking, Insurance, Telecom, Commerce, Graphical, IT, Security, Media and Gaming sector • Membership of 75,000- approx. • 20% of women membership • Affiliated to various National centres like NTUC, GEFONT, ANTUF • Major problems in Sector: • Low unionisation in Airlines sector • MNEs are not implementing labour law and do not recognise TU.

Target Group: UNIONS of MNEs Under UNI TRAV: (5 unions) • Thai Air , Air India and 3 -other Airlines • 5 Senior officials ( 5 *5= 25 ) • 33% women – at least UNIONS of MNEs Under UNI NEPAL : (6 unions) Ncell ( TeliaSonera) ALICO ( AI G USA), DHL ( Germany) SBI and LIC ( India) TNT ( The Netherlads), 5 Senior officials ( 5 *6= 30 ) • President or Vice President, • Secretary or Joint Secretary • Treasurer or Joint Treasure • At least two Women member

  7. Objectives: Long Term: • To strengthen trade unionism in MNEs under airlines and various UNI sector in Nepal. Immediate Objectives: At the end of the training , participants will be able to • Identify major challenges of TU in the MNEs • Understand the basic information on core labour standards, ILO MNE guidelines • List out the actions to be carried out by their unions in local and national level. • 20% of women membership • Affiliated to various National centres like NTUC, GEFONT, ANTUF • Major problems in Sector: • Low unionisation in Airlines sector • MNEs are not implementing labour law and do not recognise TU.

Activities: Activity Number I • National Course of Core Labour Standard for Airlines Union Leaders • Number of Participants: 25 • There of Women: 33% • Duration: 3 Days • Partly Residential • Date: July 2012 ( date will be decided after approval of UNITRAV Central Committee and consultation with GEFONT) • Facilitators: Saru, Trainer from UNITRAV and GEFONT • Budget: 1500 USD ( 25% from union and 75% to seek cooperation from outsider.

Activities: Activity Number II • National Course of Core Labour Standard for Union Leaders • Number of Participants: 30 • There of Women: 33% • Duration: 3 Days • Partly Residential • Date: November 2012( date will be decided after approval of UNI Nepal Liaison Council- UNI NLC • Facilitators: Rajendra, Trainer from Union/ UNI NLC • Budget: 1500 USD ( 25% from union and 75% to seek cooperation from outsider.
