Yoruba Peoples Nigeria Mid-20th Century Wrapper • 2 European figures in the center • Figurative scenes show that the wrapper was solely meant for display • At the bottom it includes the Yoruba phrase “IseKosehinOluwa” meaning “Everything is known to God” • The Yoruba people commonly used adire cloth, a tie-dyed cloth. (Indigo was mainly used) • Commemorative adire is probably connected to a long tradition that continues today • some of the elaborate motifs present in the Wrapper were inspired by Islam
