4. GRADUATION PLANS • Recommended Program • 26 credits required • 2 Years of the same foreign language • Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) • 28 – 32 credits required, plus • see 2012-2013 course catalog, pp 31-32

5. WHAT IS A CREDIT? Number value associated with a class Earn credits by passing classes Full year courses earns 1.0 credit 1 semester courses earn .5 credit

6. ENGLISH • Each plan requires 4 credits of English • 9th Grade Students choose from: • 1112 - English I • 1113 -Pre-AP English I • 1115 - Pre-AP TAG English I

7. SOCIAL STUDIES • Each plan requires 4 credits of Social Studies • 9th Grade Students choose from: • 2102 - World Geography • 2103 - Pre-AP World Geography • 2105 - Tag Pre-AP World Geography

8. MATH • The Recommended Program requires 4 credits of Math • The Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) requires 5 credits of Math • 9th Grade Students choose from: • 3212 - Algebra I • 3312 - Geometry • 3313 - Pre-AP or 3315 - Pre-AP/TAG Geometry • 3222 - Algebra II • 3223 - Pre-AP or 3225 - Pre-AP/TAG Algebra II

9. SCIENCE • The Recommended Program requires 4 credits of Science • The Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) requires 5 credits of Science • 9th Grade Students choose from: • 4011 - Biology • 4012 - Pre-AP Biology • 4015 - TAG Pre-AP Biology (program placement)

10. PHYSICAL EDUCATION • 1.5 Credits required • 9th Grade Students choose two: • 6030 - Foundations of Personal Fitness • 6011 - Team Sports • 6014 - Individual Sports • 6028 - Individual Sports (Weight Training)

11. PHYSICAL ED. – con’t. • 9th Grade Students may also choose U.I.L. Athletics to meet the P.E. requirement. One PE credit is earned for the entire year. • Double blocked classes earn 1 state credit & 1 local credit • Basketball (double-blocked boys & girls) • Football (double-blocked) • Soccer (double-blocked boys & girls) • Softball (double-blocked) • Volleyball (double-blocked) • Cross Country/Track (single-blocked boys & girls) • Gymnastics (Non Competitive)

12. ATHLETICS – Special Info. • Boy’s Baseball • After school – Spring Semester • Golf, Swimming, Tennis, & Volleyball • Sign-up sheets available for summer tryouts, if interested

13. ACCEPTABLE P.E. WAIVERS • These classes will substitute for the P.E. requirement: • Marching Band - .5 PE Credit for Fall Semester • ROTC – 1 PE Credit for entire year • DANCE I – 1 PE Credit and 1 Fine Arts Credit • Some double blocked Academy Courses will waive .5 credit of P.E. • (see course catalog for specific courses)

Dance I (recommendation required) • Dance I – Drill Team Preparation (for Dragonettes) • Dance I – Color Guard (Band Flags – recommendation required) • Ballet Folklorico (Course #7112)

21. How Many Pre AP Classes do I take??? Consider how well you have done in your current class. What extra curricular activities are you going to be involved in? How much time are you going to be spending at practices before and after school? On average for each Pre AP class you take, you will be spending about an hour per night doing homework in addition to other classes.

Now What Do I Do? • Middle School Counselors will help you finalize your courses for next year along with your 4 yr plan. • Do Not Submit your Career Cruising Course Planner 9th grade Courses until you meet with the RRHS Counselors in March. • Parent Q & A Session • February 9th • 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. • RRHS 1100 Cafeteria

32. Now What Do I Do? • The first week of March RRHS counselors will be here to finalize and submit your classes for 9th grade. • Bring your completed (yellow) paper choice sheet with your parents signature on your assigned day. • Go to the RRHS website & sign up for eNews for the latest information about What’s happening at RRHS
