Daman and Diu remained a single and distinct union territory after Goa was granted independence in 1987. The union area is divided into two districts, Daman and Diu, approximately 198 kilometers apart. As a former Portuguese colony, the area is home to various structures and monuments with Portuguese-styled architecture and town planning. According to legend, the Pandavas, during their exile from Hastinapur, constructed the five Shiva Lingas that can be found here. Every year, many worshippers go to the temple because of its long history. The Shiva Lingas are built on the shores of a sea that is constantly washed by oncoming waves. Somnath Mahadev Temple Among Hindu pilgrims, the Somnath Temple is a well-known temple. The shrine may be found in Dabhel hamlet, about an hour's drive from Diu. Lord Shiva is honored at this temple. The shrine is reportedly built after a monk in the 19th century requested the formation of a shivling in Dabhel.
