Squid • are invertebrates (animals without backbones) • are mollusks closely related to octopus • can change the color of their skin to camouflage and hide from predators • move through water by squirting water from the mantle through the siphon, using a type of jet propulsion • are carnivores • have 8 arms and 2 tentacles • have a beak to tear food • produce a dark ink to escape from predators • are eaten by fish, birds, marine mammals and humans • are found in So Cal during the winter months (Dec – Mar)
