  2. Student Organization • Study/buddy clock • Worksheet by subject to send home for absent students • Copy of notes taken in class for absent students • Set Routines

  3. NEWSLETTERS • Classroom newsletter • Welcome back- include supplies • Don’t reinvent the wheel, there are all types of examples on the internet or right on your computer. • Upper grades discuss by subject • Lower grades also include spelling words, parties, etc.

  4. Behavior Modification • Have 2 plans in place before school starts. • Explain the plan to the children • Send home an explanation to parents • Have children help create classroom rules • Provide a “Dear Abby” box • BE CONSISTANT

  5. Tools Of The Trade • Use a timer to keep children on task • For younger children, use chimes for easy transition

  6. Parent Volunteers SHOULD: • Fill out the district form for volunteers • Run parties • Chaperone field trips • Center time • Prep work SHOULD NOT: • Correct student papers • Look in your grade book • Talk about their child • Ask about other children in the room

Teacher Management • Emergency Plans • Keep an explanation of all routines, procedures, etc. in your sub folder • Have a few generic activities that can be taught at any time in case your planned activity cannot be accomplished. • Organize your week of worksheets into folders for each day of the week • Have a colleague who you can email your plans to.

Teacher Management Cont’d • Plan book -Have your plan book planned 2 weeks in advance • Preparation of Materials -Place all papers, manuals,& materials in daily bins a week in advance. -Organize all other papers & materials by subject -Laminate any papers, activities, etc. that can be re-used. -Use parent volunteers to help organize -Have your room completely ready for the next day before you leave.

Teacher Management Cont’d • Use of Plan Periods -Keep an ongoing list of “things to do” & cross them off as you go -Prioritize your list -Before you walk your students to specials, gather everything you will need for your errand running -Try to limit your parent phone calls to 5 minutes each, saving longer calls for before & after school
