  6. Hipófise ou Pituitária É considerada a glândula mestra da vida, pois seus produtos (hormônios) controlam o funcionamento de praticamente todo o organismo. Encontra-se localizada na base do encéfalo e mede aproximadamente 1 cm de diâmetro, tendo a forma de um grão de bico. A hipófise encontra-se divida em duas regiões: adeno-hipófise e neuro-hipófise.
