  2. Welcome • Privyet, Russia, is a country that has a lot of interesting facts. It is the largest country in the world. Russian people speak mostly Russian. The weather is very cold in most parts of Russia, but in St. Petersburg, the weather is warmer . Those are some facts about Russia, but there is still a lot more.

  3. Where is Russia? • Kazakhstan • Norway • Georgia Russia is the largest country in the world. It covers 2 continents and has 11 • China time zones. Asia and Europe are the continents that Russia covers. • Finland • Latvia • Estonia • Poland • North Korea • Lithuania • Belarus • Ukraine • Finland • Azerbaijan

  4. Russian Sports Soccer is the most popular sport in Russia. The Russian people play ice hockey and figure skating in the winter. Russia wins lots of gold medals for figure skating. They win so many because the weather is always cold so they can practice. Some other favorites of Russia are gymnastics, basketball, and track and field. People in the Southeast of Russia canoe on the Amur River and Reindeer sledding is popular in the North.

  5. Government Russia has a president to run the country. The voting age is 18, just like the United States. Russia’s parliament is called the Federal Assembly. Vladimir Putin is currently President of Russia. He has been President since May 7, 2012. Russia used to have Tsars which were like kings. One of the rulers in Russia was very strange. He was called Peter the Great. He made men shave off their beards and if they didn’t then they had to pay a beard tax for having a beard. He ruled in the 18th and 19th centuries.

  6. HISTORY AND cULTURE The official name of Russia is Russian Federation because the government is a federation. Russia celebrates a lot of the same holidays as the U.S. They celebrate Christmas but they call Santa Claus Grandfather Frost. The symbol of Russia’s states is a double headed eagle, which is kind of creepy.

  7. Economics natural resources and products Russia makes iron, steel, and guns. Russia trades for weird things like dead rats and pizzas. That is what Russia trades with Canada which is the 2nd biggest country in the world but Russia is still bigger. Russia also trades with the U.S, and Turkey a little bit. Russia grows grains, potatoes, and sugar beets on their farms.

  8. Flag and flag facts The colors on the Russian flag are white, blue and red. White stands for pure, blue stands for noble, and red stands for bold and brave. The Russian empire used the stripes of the Russian flag to represent parts of the armed forces. The Russian emperor had to give up the flag when Russia became a country in 1991. The Russian emperor had the flag from 1699-1918.

Fun facts • Russia is the largest country in the world • 14 countries border Russia. • Russian people were forced to shave off their beards or pay a beard tax when Peter the great ruled in the 17th and 18th centuries. • A tradition in Russia is when some one steps on your toes in Russia you have to step on theirs back. • In Russia when you celebrate Christmas you have to call Santa Grandfather Frost.

  11. Amazing plants and animals Polar bears are most common in Russia. Since Russia is very cold their thick fur is perfect for the weather. They also have body fat to keep them warm. Russia has many forests in its cold climate. Polar bears live in the coldest parts of Russia.

  12. The hermitage The Hermitage is a row of buildings in the famous city called St. Petersburg. There is an old Hermitage, a New Hermitage, a Pavilion hall, Hermitage Museum and the Winter palace. In the Hermitage Museum there are real paintings from Picasso and Rembrant. Those make the Hermitage Museum a big tourist attraction. The Pavilion hall, Winter Palace, and New and Old Hermitage are also big tourist attractions.
