  3. CCSS ALIGNMENTwith college readiness expectations:ICAS Statement of Competencies for Mathematics and Academic LiteracyCalifornia ICAS = Intersegmental Committee of Academic Senates 1

  4. CCSS-ICAS Overall Findings • Do all ICAS competencies relate to the CCSS? • Math • Overall, yes, 98% of the time the ICAS are present in some way when the CCSS are taught or learned (except Subject Matter Desirable for all Students - Discrete Mathematics: set theory, graph theory, coding theory, voting systems, game theory, and decision theory. • Three CCSS cluster level standards have no matches: • Functions: Model periodic phenomena with trigonometric functions • Geometry: Visualize relationships between two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects • Statistics and Probability: Interpret linear models

  5. CCSS ALIGNMENTwith state standards:Texas college and career readiness standardsKSUS: Knowledge and Skills for University Success International Baccalaureate Standards California content standards Massachusetts Curriculum Framework “While additional analyses at the individual state level are needed, the overall findings from this study suggest a general level of agreement between common core standards and the comparison standards regarding what is important for high school students to know and be able to do…to be ready for college and career.” (EPIC, 2011) 1

  6. CCSS ALIGNMENTwith national standards:NCTM – National Council of Teachers of MathematicsNMAP – National Mathematics Advisory PanelNAEP – National Assessment of Educational ProgressSingapore mathematics standardsJapan mathematics standards 1

  10. ASSESSMENT DEVELOPMENT California AB 484 provides for full implementation in Spring 2015 MAPP: Measurement of Academic Performance and Progress. 1

  11. IMPLEMENTATION • Professional Development • California AB 86: $1.25 BILLION • a. Professional Development • b. Instructional Materials • c. Technology for Instruction • and Testing 1

  12. THE BIG SHIFT IN CALIFORNIA • Current Practice: • Standardized tests are course-specific • Algebra I students take the CST for Algebra I • The New System: • All 11th grade students take the same Smarter • Balanced Summative Assessment 1
