    44. New Projects Hiatus Expect to lift hiatus on new projects shortly after local holdings maintenance is available through the Connexion browser Order Form A new order form for the local holdings batch maintenance service will be available on the OCLC Web site at that time.

    45. Data Requirements Will continue to accept files of MFHD or Non-MARC patterned data. Will no longer be limited only to serial item holdings. Newspaper restrictions for USNP (NEPU) libraries will be removed!

    46. OCLC Control Number must still be in each record and consistently in the same location in each record in a file. Will continue to require complete set of holdings records attached to a single bibliographic record. Will still follow single copy model. Each holdings record sent in the set of records for a specific bibliographic record must represent the holdings data for only one copy. Data Requirements (cont)

    47. Institution-level Summary Holdings Institution-level summary holdings statements will be created when library submits coded holdings data. Summarization will generally not be done for textual holdings. A generic note indicating that local holdings are available will take the place of an institution summary if one cannot be created. Summary can be manually edited online following batchload projectSummary can be manually edited online following batchload project

    48. Documentation Planning Guide is under revision. Batch Processing Web pages will be revised.

    52. Illinois Group Catalog search screen [At this stage in the presentation, you can either demo live one or more group catalogs, or use these screen captures from the Florida Group Catalog.] Pictured is a screen shot from the Illinois Group Catalog. It’s a multitype, statewide union catalog with the holdings of over 1800 institutions. Went live July 2004. Library users in Illinois can search the collections of all public, community college and state university libraries through the Statewide Illinois Library Catalog (SILC). Illinois libraries have been contributing holdings to WorldCat for 30 years, so the creation of an Illinois union catalog was the next logical step in making the most of their work—and their investment. This catalog is currently live and available on the Internet (http://findit.ilsos.net/OCLC/) You’re looking at the catalog through the FirstSearch interface. Some things to point out: Branding: SILC logo in upper left. Institution name in upper right. No mention of OCLC or FirstSearch in the banner (There is a small WorldCat icon at the bottom right of the screen with message “Illinois Group Catalog records are enhanced with WorldCat holdings information ”) The name directly below the banner is “Illinois Group Catalog” not WorldCat Custom scopes: Users can limit their searches regionally and by library type. These are groups customized per specifications from the state library of Illinois So users can start locally, regionally, statewide or even search globally (by selecting “Libraries Worldwide”) [At this stage in the presentation, you can either demo live one or more group catalogs, or use these screen captures from the Florida Group Catalog.] Pictured is a screen shot from the Illinois Group Catalog. 53. The first record, “Devil in the White City”. Held by the home library (Illinois State Library), as indicated by home library icon. In standard FirstSearch, you’d see how many OCLC libraries own the item – 1812. <click> In the group catalog, we also include the number of libraries that own in the item in the group searched. Here we searched all libraries in the state. And the brief record shows that 379 libraries statewide own the item. <click> From the holdings page, users see a list of all 379 libraries in Illinois that own the item. The home library, the University of Miami, owns the item, shown at the top of the list. To access item availability, click on the icon <click> And the home web OPAC is searched for the record selected. A user may also access the OPACs of any of the institutions listed as hyperlinks in the holdings information. The first record, “Devil in the White City”.
