  3. CFU: State the objective in your own words Objective Today we are going to analyze figurative language (metaphor) in a poem. Standard RL.9-10.4a & L.9-10.5 Analyze how diction (figurative language, connotative words) impacts the tone and/or theme.

Importance Analyzing figurative language is important because • it will help you to understand the meaning of a piece of literature, rap music, or conversation. • Using it will add depth and interest to your writing. • It is a skill you will use throughout your high school and college career. • It’s on the CAHSEE. So deal with it. • Transitional CFU: • Can you think of another reason why analyzing figurative language is important? • Which reason is most important to you and why? • How will this skill help you in the future or in life outside school?
