  3. Peter O’Toole stars as Lawrence • Also starred in “Troy” • Alec Guinness stars as Prince Feisel • Anthony Quinn stars as Auda abu Tayi • Has won two Oscars • Omar Sharif starred as Sherif Ali • Also seen in Hidalgo • Claude Rains starred as Mr. Dryden • Also seen in Hitch’s “Notorious” • Lean wanted Albert Finney for lead but Katherine Hepburn convinced prod. Sam Spiegel to cast Peter O’Toole.

  4. 227 minutes long and there are no women who have speaking roles. • When Lawrence was being developed in 1960, Marlon Brando was set to star. • Anthony Perkins also sought after. • Almost all movement in the film is from left to right to emphasize the journey of the film. • Real T.E. Lawrence died on motorcycle riding back from Bovington Army Camp. • O’Toole constantly called Omar Sharif “Fred” • Story of T.E. Lawrence began to be developed into a film as early as 1926.

  5. Lean never saw any dailies while filming. • Many parts of film were true to life even to the point of some actors looking exactly like the real life people. • Production halted when they moved to Spain and when Bolt was arrested for involvement in a Nuclear Disarmament Protest. • To film Sharif’s appearance through a mirage the Cinematographer used a special 482mm lens, now called the David Lean lens • EW rated it the #18 movie • Jackson Bentley based on real life journalist Lowell Thomas

  6. O’Toole stated that he didn’t view the completed film until two decades after it’s release. • O’Toole had to had a layer of sponge rubber beneath his camel saddle to help him ride without getting a bruised backside. • Real life Lawrence was shorter (5’6” compared to O’Toole’s 6’5”) and not as pretty. • Bolt used real quotes from the actual Lawrence in the script • When Gen. Murray says, the revolt was “a sideshow of a sideshow.” This was a line by the actual Lawrence • Premiere Magazine rates O’Toole’s performance as the #1 greatest of all time. • Kind Hussein lent a legion brigade of Arab Legion to be used as extras on the film.

  7. AFI ranked it as #7 greatest movies of all time • T.E. Lawrence actually owned seven of the style of motorcycle he rides in the death scene.
