Let’s Begin • Let’s observe some planaria in petri dishes • Watch their movement, observe using magnifying glasses • As a group, decide what 4 solutions (some can be combinations or different concentrations of the same substance) that your group would like to test • On your labs, record a “Hypothesis” that includes your “cause” and “effect”

  7. Some important things to consider: • Each group will receive 3 planaria • You will need to record baseline data of each individual planaria in spring water over the course of 2 minutes. This is your control. All run times are 2 mins. • One at a time, place in a Petri dish. CAREFULLY flip over the closer petri dish so that the grid is on the bottom. • Count how many times the planaria crosses the line in 2 minutes. • Class Discussion: What is our classroom standard unit for measurement of line crosses?

Other items: • The planaria should remain in the experimental solutions for 4 mins. prior to line-cross test. • Design your experimental protocol • ALL experiments testing different chemical solutions need to have the same concentration (must also not exceed 40%). DEMO DILUTION • Be sure to detox planaria for four minutes in spring water between experiments • How should you collect data? Average?
