Country Baseline in north of Iran • So beautiful nature in north of Iran • Dependence of north littoral provinces to Caspian sea • Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan are provinces in north of Iran • 10% of Iran population habitant in north littoral provinces • Higher population ratio of villages • Oil is Main economic sector in Iran, but agriculture is economical activity in north littoral provinces

  4. Environmental problem • Waste management problems • Lack of sanitary disposal land • Urban waste water treatment plant • Rural waste water treatment plant • High level of Under ground water

  5. Environmental problem • Pesticide and stockpile: POPs pesticide in Iran are forbidden use from 1976, so there are 6 stockpile in bad condition in Gilan, Golestan and Mazandaran Aldrine, Dieldrine, DDT, Endrine are in stockpiles as below: Gilan 770Kg/Lit, Mazandaran 1720 Kg/Lit, Golestan 7332Kg/Lit And about 1800 ton contaminant soil in storage

  6. Environmental problem • Expired pesticides In 6 storage related to agriculture organization in Gilan 27715 Lit/Kg, in Mazandaran12592Lit/Kg, Golestan 15749Lit/Kg All of those need to incinerations

  7. Environmental problem • PCB in three north littoral provinces Transformer and capacitor contain the PCB are below: Gilan 92 transformers 34690 Lit Mazandaran 78 transformers 33800 Lit Golestan 7 transformers 3250 Lit

  8. Environmental problem • Landfill and burning Dioxin and Furans as total emission are below: Gilan 111,992,384(micro gr TEQ/yr) Mazandaran 127,810,369(micro gr TEQ/yr) Golestan 31,748,523 (micro gr TEQ/yr)

  9. Environmental problem • Industries in north of Iran Metal, basic metal, food industry, wood and paper industry and mineral are category of industry in Iran Gilan330, Mazandaran901 and Golestan109 Many of those located in industrial township Only a few of those are in large scale

  10. Environmental problem • Mine activity Active mine in north littoral provinces are 48, Gilan 19, Mazandaran 38 and Golestan 11 Raining is very high in three littoral provinces and wash the remain of mine stone and heavy metals and release to waterbed

  11. Environmental problem • Ship and shipping There have 7 port in Iran side of Caspian sea Release the fuel from the small boat Dredging material Ship waste and rubbish

  12. Priority contaminants of activity • Agriculture activity • Urban and rural waste/waste water • Mine activity • Industrial activity • Port and shipping activity

  13. What we can do? • Pesticide : Public awareness Control the contraband of POPs pesticide Penalty for POPs users Incineration of POPs pesticide and expierd IPM for reduce use of pesticide Organic farming

What we can do? • Waste/ waste water treatment: Designing sanitary land fill for disposal of industrial and hygienic waste in each of provinces Designing and construction waste water treatment plant for all of cities Recommended to uses of anaerobic purification septic tank to all of rural houses and reuse the waters Designing and construction compost plan in 50 place of three provinces for reusing the urban and rural waste (in small and large scale) Construction for control the latex and treatment of it in each of disposal land

  15. What we can do? • Mine activity In mine activity Iran have to close some ancient company Designing and construction the lagoon for control water washing runoff to the water bed Activity with EMS plan under controlling the DOE province sector

  16. What we can do? • Industrial activity Designing and construction waste water treatment plant for all of industrial township Penalty for polluter by industrial waste EMS for all of industries under controlling the DOE province branch

What we can do? • Port and shipping activity Awareness and guideline for fueling in small boat Extend the IMO convention to Caspian sea Preparing the EIA for all of dredging activity as the cabint approved Preparing the EIA before all of construction in sea bed Construction reception facility at least in Anzali and Amirabad port Install the segregate tank to all of tankers

  18. Regional activity • Extend the IMO convention to the Caspian sea • Install a POPs incinerator in one of the country • Preparing the monitoring database
